一、Introduction

Institute of Higher Education of Tongji University can be traced back to the former Higher Education Research Office of Tongji University which was established in 1983. In 1986, it was officially renamed as Institute of Higher Education of Tongji University.

With the mission of Serving the Development of Tongji university and Serving the Progress of Higher Education, the Institute consists of the following main functions: develop the Discipline of Higher Education(second level discipline) to support the construction of the Discipline of Education(first level discipline);cultivate postgraduate students, carry out scientific research and provide social services in the field of higher education; carry out school-based research concerning reform, development, teaching and scientific research of the university; edit and publish Tongji Education Research; give play to the institutional research functions  and think tanks and expand their influence in the field of higher education.

Institute of Higher Education of Tongji University adheres to the principle of “basing on small scale, sticking to high quality, emphasizing on theory, reinforcing on application, promoting interdisciplinary studies and enhancing internationalization”. With a good academic reputation at home and abroad, it has cultivated a great number of outstanding graduate students and won the honorary title National Outstanding Higher Education Study Institution for four times.
